Film it: mark the spot, jump without the mug, splash with the mug back
how-toStand on a chair and you barely have to jump. Stand next to the mug and you have to fly.
Gear: camera or phone, a mug, a small heavy object (a coin, a metal bit, or an ice cube if you want no metal clank). Camera locked off - 'very important the camera does not move' - because the jump plate, the splash plate and the empty-mug reference must align pixel for pixel. Order: (1) with the mug in frame, mark its centre on the floor; (2) move the mug out of frame and shoot the jump, optionally with a set-up line ('I'm going to jump into this cup') or a look into the mug; (3) without touching the camera, put the mug back on its mark; (4) shoot a hand dropping the coin from as high as possible - a low hand entering frame 'is much harder to mask out.' Distance sells it: the farther or higher you start, the less exaggerated the jump needs to be. Creative dressing suggested: Santa into a mug of milk, cookies in hand.
The drop-from-high rule and the floor mark are the two things that decide whether the edit takes 20 minutes or two hours.
