The order of operations - and grading early on purpose
how-toColour before cutting. 'We haven't made many other edits... we can just get this done.'
The module follows 'the Almighty 10 step editing workflow': import and organise into A-roll, B-roll and archive bins; lay the foundation by putting all the A-roll on the timeline in story order with no polish; colour correct and grade; enhance audio with the standard chain; cut the story, removing filler and dead air; add B-roll; then graphics and titles. Putting colour third is unusual and deliberate - correcting once, before the timeline multiplies into a hundred clips, means every later judgement is made against footage that already looks right. For commercial work the same thinking compresses into eight steps: import and organise, sift, find the song, lay out the story, correct and grade, motion graphics, sound design, export.
An order that removes most of the back-and-forth from an edit.
