TrueView, non-skippable, bumper and Masthead: what you pay for
Meta counts a view at five seconds; YouTube's TrueView only bills at 30.
TrueView suits brand narrative and awareness, not performance CTAs; keep videos to about 30 seconds; the companion banner stays after a skip. Non-skippable (15s, 20s in some markets) needs strong content because viewers are forced to watch; its goal is recall, measured by a Brand Lift survey sent only to exposed users. Bumpers (6s) suit mobile attention spans - the trainer's insurer ran only bumpers with a rotating USP and a direct CTA, raising frequency as policies neared expiry. Masthead takes the YouTube homepage: per hour gives 100% share of voice for the reserved hours (minimum one hour); CPM reserves an impression volume over at least a day. For Black Friday: CPM pre-buzz, CPH on the day, CPM after.
Choosing the buying model is choosing what you are paying to achieve.
